CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Class levels may be combined based on the number of eligible dancers.  Please view the class schedule for current offerings.

New Beginner

New Beginner is a 50 minute long class for dancers age 4-10 who are new to Irish Dance.  No prior dance experience is required.  Dancers will learn how to count Irish dance music, essential techniques such as cross and turn out, Irish dance steps in reel and light jig timing and performance routines.  Dancers will wear socks and comfortable athletic attire. 

ADVANCED Beginner

Advanced Beginner is a 50 minute long class for dancers age 4-10 who have completed New Beginner.  Dancers will learn new Irish dance tunes, build on essential techniques such as cross and turn out and learn the slip jig and hop jig.  Advanced Beginner dancers will be ready to participate in local performances.  Dancers may wear socks but are encouraged to purchase Irish dance soft shoes at this time. 

BEGINNER I

Beginner I is a 55 minute long class for dancers who have completed Advanced Beginner.  Dancers will learn new Irish dance tunes, build on essential techniques such as cross and turn out and start the basics of hard shoe. Dancers in Beginner I will be ready to feis in First Feis or Beginner I level.  Dancers are required to have Irish dance soft shoes and encouraged to have hard shoes. 

BEGINNER II

Beginner II is a 55 minute long class for dancers who have completed Beginner I.  Dancers will continue to work on timing and essential technique in both soft shoe and hard shoe.  Hard shoe dances will be taught at this time and dancers will learn the treble jig, hornpipe and St. Patrick's Day traditional set dance. Dancers may feis in Beginner I or Beginner II level. Irish dance soft shoes and hard shoes are required.

novice

Novice is a 55 minute long class for dancers who have completed Beginner II.  Dancers will continue to work on perfecting the fast treble jig, fast hornpipe and St. Patrick's Day traditional set dance and will begin novice soft shoe technique. Dancers may feis in Beginner II, Novice or Prizewinner level or a combination thereof. Irish dance soft shoes and hard shoes are required.

Prizewinner

Prizewinner is a 1 hour 25 minute long class for dancers who have completed Novice class level.  Dancers will work on advanced soft shoe technique and slow treble jig and hornpipe. Dancers may feis in Novice or Prizewinner level or a combination thereof. Irish dance soft shoes and hard shoes are required.

champ

Champ is a 1 hour 55 minute long class for dancers who have won first place at a feis in the Prizewinner level in the reel, slip jig, treble jig and hornpipe.  Dancers will work on advanced technique and choreographed set dances.  Dancers will feis in Preliminary or Open Championship level and will train for Oireachtas, Nationals and/or the Worlds Championships.

intro

Adult Intro is a 1 hour 30 minute long class for adults and teens who are new to Irish dance.  No prior dance experience is required.  This class is split with 45 minutes of ceili dancing and 45 minutes of solo steps instructions.  The ceili portion will be combined with the Adult - Novice class.  Dancers may wear socks, sneakers or Irish dance shoes.

Adult Novice is a 1 hour 30 minute long class for adults and teens who have previously attended an Irish dance class.  This class is split with 45 minutes of ceili dancing and 45 minutes of solo steps instructions.  The ceili portion will be combined with the Adult - Intro class.  Dancers may wear socks or sneakers but are encouraged to wear Irish dance soft shoes and hard shoes.

CHAMP

Adult Champ is a 1 hour 30 minute long class for adults who have progressed through adult grades, youth grades or by teacher recommendation.  Dancers must be ready for Novice / Prizewinner level or highter material in soft shoe and hardshoe.

drill

Drill class is a 1 or 2 hour technique focus.  Dancers will work on basic movements, break down more difficult movements or break down small portions of steps.  No step instructions will happen during this class.  

Teams

Teams class is a 1 hour or 1.5 hour practice for traditional and choreographed group dances for bot performance and feiseanna.  Open to dancers in Beginner I / II through Championship level.  Dancers will be grouped by age, ability and height. This class is soft shoe only.

master

class

Master class is a 3 hour strength, conditioning and technique focus class for dancers in Novice/Prizewinner, Prizewinner and Championship level.  Dancers will work on specific skills each class with homework to be completed outside of class. A great class for focused and motivated individuals!
